The so-called cage chicken raising method is a method of raising chickens with chicken cages. Since the chicken body is fixed in the chicken battery cages and there is no possibility of selecting environmental conditions, it is completely artificially provided with various living and production conditions, so the cage chickens require higher feeding management techniques.
Cage chicken is the most common type of three-dimensional feeding in the production of chicken, and it is also the main form of feeding from the ground. More than 80% of the laying hens have been caged in developed countries. In recent years, Ghana has gradually adopted the form of cages and achieved good results. With the improvement of the material and structure of chicken cages, whether it is commercial laying hens, chickens, broiler chickens or breeders and broiler chickens, cage cultivation is the future development direction.
This is because using chicken cages to raise chickens has more advantages than flat to raise chickens:
1. The breeding density is large, and the chickens in the same area are raised 3 to 5 times more than the flat chickens, thus saving the houses and the land.
2. Chickens are kept in cages for easy epidemic prevention.
3. Easy management, labor saving, and high labor productivity.
4. The environmental conditions are easy to control, the flocks grow evenly, and the egg production rate is high and stable.
5. Easy to observe flocks and eliminate bad chickens to ensure healthy and high-yield flocks.
6. Chickens are not in contact with the ground, and there are fewer parasitic diseases, which can save the cost of medication.
7. There is no need to lay litter in the house, which can save the cost of litter.
8. The house is clean, the environment is hygienic, and the eggs are not contaminated by feces, which improves the quality of the products.
9. Chicken activity is limited, feed consumption is low, conversion rate is high, and economic benefits are good.
10. Chicken manure is easy to collect and is a good feed for pigs and fish after fermentation.
However, the use of poultry battery cages to raise chickens, prone to nutritional deficiencies, fatty liver syndrome, egg fatigue, chest cysts, bones brittle and easy to fold and other shortcomings. Different levels of improvement can be achieved by improving feeding management and cage materials.
